Fall Golf at Minocqua Country Club

This fall has been warm and particularly beautiful.  One of my golf goals is to play at least one time in November. This year I'm hoping to play 4 or more times as the weather continues to be warm. Usually I only play one quick 9 holes, on November 4th I played 18 holes and wanted to share what I saw when heading to the green on hole #16.

The new women's drop area on #16, under construction (11/4/2016)

A big thank you to Lisa Gursoy for continuing to pursue this improvement and to Bill Stein and his crew for making it happen.

Mine was the last car in the parking lot when I left for home.  So nice to be greeted by Randal. You really are never alone on the golf course.  Below is a photo of someone watching me tee off on #14, or maybe he was scoping out dinner.

Happy winter everyone!

Beth

Business

  1. New committee members were welcomed
  2. Minutes from the August 16th meeting were placed on file. Link to August 16th minutes.
  3. Golf events
    1. There was a general discussion regarding golf events.  Consider flighting the Ringer event based on May handicaps. Change some of the Women’s Day pairings, move some of the fun games to post Ringer, provide Eagle tee options periodically, and consider three somes more often. Continue recognizing birdies. Consider promoting the Executive Course event with all Women golfers especially those who play 9 holes.
The new committee and Dave will tweak the schedule based on this past years experience and feedback from members. Link to 2016 schedule of events
    2. Trunk show update. Dave has a date for next year, 8/30/2016 with vendors beginning to commit. Dave will also send email messages to members when vendors will be dropping in this fall.
    3. Calling all Women Golfers. We will await survey results but in anticipation of a response have identified, June 6th.  Dave will put this on the calendar once confirmed by the committee.
    4. End of Season Celebration - September 14th
      1. We hope to share the survey results.
      2. Dave will pull some highlights from the season to share.
      3. Other announcements
      4. Fun gathering with friends to close out the season
  4. Budget update - Pam reviewed the budget spreadsheet she developed and the process she used throughout the year to manage the weekly payouts in conjunction with Dave.  It was suggested the new committee may want to relook at some of the games and the associated payouts
  5. Survey Update - Pam provided a draft for review. Beth will send on a link in the September email blast.
  6. Women’s Invitational. Elaine Hoth and Lee King asked if we would share a summary of thoughts and ideas related to the Women’s Invitational. Below is a summary of what was shared.  Beth will send to Elaine and Lee.
  • It is important to “show off the club” during this event
  • A theme is nice but not necessary
  • Send the invitations out earlier to guests
  • If there is a theme, it should be identified in the fall and  conversations with the golf pro should begin at that time so work to coordinate prizes can take place over the winter.
  • It is important to include Dave and September in committee meetings and involve them in the planning.  The MCC staff play an important role in supporting the event and providing consistency from year to year.
  • Continue to add to the planning document created by Jana and Patty from the 20015 event and pass that on to the next planning committee.
  • Begin promoting the event early especially with our Women’s Day group.
  • Improve the gift to participants.  There was interest in bringing in a vendor with a certain dollar amount being the gift, allowing participants to pick their own gift.
  1. Women’s Day Committee Charter will be reviewed at the first meeting of the new committee.

  1. Next meeting was set
  2. Meeting was adjourned at 12:30 PM CT

Respectfully Submitted,

Beth A.M. Dailey
