NOTE: An Open Forum will take place on July 13th after golf and lunch in the Lakeside Room. Feedback on the guidelines can be provided to a committee member at anytime and during the forum. A vote will be taken in September.
BACKGROUND
The Woman’s Day Committee was formed to simplify ladies league operations. Prior to the 2016 season, the ladies league was governed following bylaws. The bylaws were suspended beginning 9/2015 on a trial basis. The Women’s Day Committee will continue to exist only as long as the league members choose to continue suspending the bylaws. This document clarifies how the committee operates at this time.
COMPOSITION OF THE COMMITTEE
There will be 5 members on the committee, as long as league membership falls between 35 and 80 members. Should the membership fall outside those parameters, the committee size may change.
ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Organize the weekly Women’s Day golf events
- Responsibly manage the membership dues, using them primarily (but not exclusively) for weekly game prizes
- Serve as a liaison with the golf shop and MCC Golf Committee to represent the interests and concerns of league members.
COMMITTEE STRUCTURE AND OPERATION
- We would like 2-3 league members to volunteer to join the committee each year, so that the same number of current members can leave. This will create staggered “terms,” providing new ideas along with historical perspective. Terms begin and end each year on September 30.
- Ideally, no single person will participate on the committee for more than 2 consecutive years.
- All league members are encouraged to volunteer to join the committee.
- A key goal is to have representatives from all ability levels.
- Each year, the committee members will decide who, specifically, will handle which functions.
- We make decisions after soliciting feed from the members.
- Throughout the season, we will seek informal feedback from league members. At least once a year, we will hold an open forum.
SKILLS NEEDED TO PARTICIPATE ON THE COMMITTEE
- Committee members should be willing and able to use email for communication.
- One member should be able to balance income and outgo of funds (like balancing a checkbook).
- One member should be willing to learn how to post documents and information on the Women’s Day blog.
- One member should have good organization skills, to assure that tasks are completed.
- One member represents the Women’s Day group at the MCC Golf Committee.
OUR KEY VALUES
- We value the diverse interests and abilities of our members.
- We strive to balance interest in competitive and fun golf.
- We value open and honest communication.
- We strive to transparently operate the Women’s Day organization and offer multiple feedback avenues.
- We actively seek to include all MCC Women golfers.
- We want to be flexible and adaptable as members’ needs and interests change.
